Major fire in Margarethen am Moos: Four injured and 140 emergency personnel deployed

Difficult extinguishing water supply

Around 140 members of several fire services from the surrounding area were deployed for hours. They were coordinated by the Florianigruppe of the Lower Austrian major fire service response forces. In addition to the actual firefighting, the responders also had to prevent the flames from spreading to neighboring structures, which, according to the emergency personnel, was successful.

The district of Bruck an der Leitha and in particular the municipality of Margarethen am Moos are located in a region where the fire services regularly train together. The current operation has once again shown how important inter-municipal cooperation is, the fire service subsequently stated. Vienna Airport and the municipality of Enzersdorf were also part of the coordinated response.

In parallel with the firefighting operation, fire protection around the scene was ensured. The Fischa and adjacent roads were partially closed to prevent the approach of emergency vehicles from being obstructed. Police set up a wide-scale cordon and asked local residents to avoid the area.

Cause of fire still unclear

The amount of property damage to the residential house cannot yet be quantified. According to initial assessments by the fire service, however, the building is severely damaged and at least in parts no longer habitable. Affected residents were initially cared for by the municipality and aid organizations, KMM reported in its initial report.

Police have initiated investigations into the cause of the fire. According to investigators, there are so far no indications of deliberate arson or a technical defect. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear and is the subject of police investigations.

The operation ended on Wednesday afternoon, after the last embers had been extinguished and the scene had been handed over to the police. The fire service subsequently warned against unauthorized inspection of the scene and asked that any possible fire traces be reported to the investigating authorities.

Consequences for local residents

For the local residents in Margarethen am Moos, the fire represents a severe disruption. The fire service announced that it would support the affected family in further clarifying their care and the coming nights. The Red Cross set up a care point nearby, where the injured and relatives were looked after.

Overall, the operation illustrates, according to the fire service, the burden that a residential house fire in a densely built rural area brings with it. The supply line of almost 400 meters in length is a clear sign that the supply of extinguishing water in rural areas must be further expanded. The municipality intends to review the events at the next meeting of the municipal council.
