Marc Márquez has won the sprint at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, while his title rival Marco Bezzecchi will miss out after a crash that resulted in a broken collarbone requiring surgery.

Márquez dominates the sprint

Six-time world champion Marc Márquez celebrated a commanding flag-to-flag victory in Saturday's 15-lap, 55.065-kilometer sprint at the Sachsenring. The 33-year-old Spaniard made no mistakes over the full distance on his Ducati and, after taking pole position in the morning, added the sprint victory to his day. „Ich habe versucht, konstant meine Pace zu halten“, Márquez said after the race.

Behind Márquez, his Ducati factory teammates Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio finished in second and third. Alex Marquez crossed the line 0.368 seconds behind his older brother, with Di Giannantonio a further 0.813 seconds back. Franco Morbidelli, who had qualified seventh, was demoted three grid places for riding too slowly on the racing line – the same penalty was handed to Diogo Moreira, who had qualified fifteenth.

In the overall MotoGP World Championship standings, Márquez (165 points) closed the gap to leader Jorge Martín (197) to 32 points. Martín, who rides for Aprilia, finished the sprint only sixth and lost further ground. Márquez had already set the fastest time in Friday's practice and, in Saturday morning's qualifying, laid down a new lap record of 1:19.041 minutes to claim pole position.
