Neubrandenburg, 13 June 2026
The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival opened its 2026 season on Saturday with a concert by the Armida Quartet and the NDR Radiophilharmonie at the Konzertkirche in Neubrandenburg.
The opening featured an overture by composer Johannes Fischer, performed by the Armida Quartet. This was followed by the NDR Radiophilharmonie under its chief conductor Stanislaw Kochanovsky, performing, among other works, the Fourth Symphony by Johannes Brahms. The opening concert began at 4 p.m. and was broadcast live by NDR Kultur via video and audio stream.
The Festspiele MV runs until 12 September and this year comprises around 120 concerts at 90 different venues between Anklam and Zarrentin. Artistic director Ursula Haselböck emphasised that the festival had earned its reputation as the 'truffle pigs of classical music' over 36 years: 'Die Festspiele haben sich seit 36 Jahren den Namen als "Trüffelschweine der Klassik" wirklich verdient'.
