Facebook parent company Meta will invest at least $135 billion in expanding its AI infrastructure this year, the company announced.
The $135 billion total marks a significant increase in the group’s previous investments in data centers, chips, and artificial intelligence software. Meta is therefore joining a group of major technology companies that are currently massively ramping up AI spending. This comes amid growing competition over AI models, applications, and the underlying computing power.

In the dpa report citing the figure, attention is drawn to the broader trend of large internet companies sharply increasing their investments in AI infrastructure year over year. The investment is flowing, among other things, into the construction and expansion of data centers, specialized AI chips, and the necessary energy supply. According to the company, Meta already operates dozens of data centers worldwide that are used for AI training and AI applications.
