Meta is set to announce a 10% reduction in its global workforce tomorrow as part of a major restructuring aimed at prioritizing artificial intelligence (AI) development, according to an internal document obtained yesterday.
Workforce Reduction and AI Shift
The layoffs will affect approximately 7,800 employees, based on Meta’s reported workforce of 78,000 at the end of March. In addition to the job cuts, the company has eliminated 6,000 open positions. Meta’s head of HR, Janelle Gale, outlined organizational changes that include moving 7,000 employees to new AI projects while eliminating management roles to create "flatter hierarchies and smaller, more agile teams."
The restructuring is part of a broader realignment to place AI applications at the forefront of Meta’s operations. Affected employees will be transferred to departments developing AI agents designed to take over tasks previously handled by humans. The company has declined to comment on the layoffs or the restructuring plan.
