Brodersby-Goltoft, 16 June 2026

The solar-powered cable ferry "Missunde III" resumed ferry service between Brodersby-Goltoft (Schleswig-Flensburg district) and Missunde (Rendsburg-Eckernförde district) on Monday afternoon, after the drive system was repaired and realigned.

Damage to drive system fixed

The ferry had been temporarily taken out of service on 24 May for safety reasons after a drive belt had torn in mid-May. Just one week later, the replacement belt was severely damaged, meaning the newly built vessel – which had only begun operating in late April after years of delays – broke down again.

The repair took three weeks and stayed on schedule, according to the Schleswig-Holstein Agency for Coastal Protection, National Park and Marine Protection (LKN.SH). The Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG) was commissioned to carry out the work. The costs for repairing and realigning the drivetrain amount to around 60,000 euros.
