Chișinău, July 3, 2026

Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu unexpectedly resigned from office on July 3, 2026, triggered by a corruption scandal involving the aviation authority MoldATSA, which also weighed on President Maia Sandu.

Munteanu had only taken office as head of government in November 2025 and had been in office for just under eight months at the time of his resignation. With the prime minister's resignation, the entire government in Chișinău automatically loses office under the constitution. He also announced: "Heute endet meine Amtszeit als Ministerpräsident."
