Vienna, July 13, 2026

Gregor Mühlberger has won the Tour of Austria, claiming the first Austrian overall victory at the home national tour in 13 years; organizer Thomas Pupp sees the home success as a boost for the upcoming editions of the race.

Lower Austrian Gregor Mühlberger decided the Tour of Austria 2026 in his favor, delivering the first Austrian overall victory at the storied national tour in 13 years. In a conversation with the Austria Presse Agentur (APA), organizer Thomas Pupp took stock and described Mühlberger's performance as a stroke of luck for the race.

A home victory as vindication

After being left off the Tour de France, Mühlberger had started at the home tour and had crossed the finish line first on the Ringstraße in Vienna the week prior. "Ich bin sehr stolz, die Trophäe wird einen Ehrenplatz bekommen", the cycling professional said after his success. The victory was a "große Genugtuung" given the missed nomination for the French tour, he said.

The long-time World Tour professional was supported in the Austrian squad by, among others, the two young riders Valentin Hofer and Sebastian Putz.
