Bregenz, 22 August 2026

A multi-vehicle pile-up on the A14 Rheintalautobahn near Bregenz severely disrupted traffic between Vorarlberg and Germany for several hours on Friday.

On Friday, a series of rear-end collisions occurred on the A14 in the direction of Germany, likely triggered by slowing traffic ahead of the Pfänder Tunnel. Because traffic had come to a crawl, several drivers had to brake hard, including a 62-year-old motorist. This set off a chain reaction in which multiple vehicles collided.

According to the emergency services, none of those involved were seriously injured. A few occupants were taken to Bregenz Regional Hospital for examination but were able to leave after outpatient treatment. Police initially did not provide an exact number of vehicles involved or the total damage.
