The Munich Regional Court I has largely ruled in favor of collecting society Gema in the copyright dispute against the US company Suno.

The Munich Regional Court I has issued a ruling in the proceedings brought by collecting society Gema against the AI music service Suno that, according to information from circles close to the parties and reports from several media outlets, finds large parts of the lawsuit to be well-founded. Gema had accused the US provider that its AI system exploits protected musical works in a trainable form and reproducibly imitates them in the generated outputs.

According to Gema's assessment, the pieces produced by Suno resemble the originals so closely that this is to be taken as an indication of the incorporation of protected components into the AI model during training. The chamber evidently followed this argument on its key points.
