British police are investigating the death of former Conservative politician and Brexit supporter Ann Widdecombe as a murder and have arrested a 26-year-old British man.
The 78-year-old Ann Widdecombe was found lifeless in her home in Haytor in the county of Devon in southwest England on Thursday. According to police, she had sustained extremely serious injuries. The authorities have classified the case as a homicide and have launched a murder investigation.
Arrest and investigation
On Friday evening, Devon and Cornwall Police announced the arrest of a 26-year-old British man. The arrest took place in the afternoon, as Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman explained at a press conference. Longman spoke of an extremely tragic incident and said: „Das ist ein extrem tragischer Vorfall. Unsere Gedanken sind bei den Angehörigen und Freunden."
