Vienna, July 9, 2026

On August 27, a 33-year-old man must answer at the Vienna Regional Court to charges of murdering Jennifer S., who disappeared in January 2018 and whom, according to the indictment, he killed and buried in the Waldviertel region.

The defendant was the young woman's former partner. The 21-year-old had argued with him and subsequently separated from him. After that, she disappeared from their shared apartment in Vienna-Brigittenau under what police described as "suspicious circumstances."

After murder near Vienna's Naschmarkt: Russian (24) arrested in Nice — this report from a separate case illustrates the parallel investigative work of Austrian criminal investigators but is not the subject of the current trial.

Confession and discovery of the remains

In December of last year, the suspect confessed and led criminal investigators to the buried mortal remains of the victim. As emerged years later, he is alleged to have killed the woman in 2018 and initially left her body in the area of Großweikersdorf in the district of Tulln. The remains were ultimately buried in the district of Zwettl near the Allentsteig military training area.

Investigations into the death of the 21-year-old, who had vanished without a trace, received new leads in 2025 through a chat, as reported by the Chronik desk. Criminal investigations against the suspect on suspicion of deprivation of liberty had already been discontinued in April 2019.
