Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has labeled the charge of genocide in the Gaza war as "the biggest lie of the century," once again fueling international debate over his country's military course of action.

Netanyahu's remarks come at a time when, according to Israeli journalist Amos Harel, the relationship between Israel and the United States is visibly under strain. Harel wrote, according to the available reports, that Netanyahu has recently tried to "sell his voters the same wonderful relationship with Trump – a relationship in which cracks have long been visible, and have only deepened as their joint adventure in the Persian Gulf grows more chaotic." Harel thereby describes an increasingly strained axis between Jerusalem and Washington that is simultaneously confronting growing international criticism of the conduct of the war in Gaza.
