Netherlands: Four Men Arrested – Women Drugged and Filmed

The police have not yet commented on the possible number of victims or the timeframe in which the acts are alleged to have been committed. Furthermore, it is still unclear what exactly the accused are being charged with, it was added. The police did not rule out further arrests.

According to the information, the victims were the partners of the arrested men. The acts were filmed and the recordings were distributed, explained the Rotterdam police. The police stated they were alerted to the case by tips from colleagues in Germany and Great Britain.

Tips from Germany and Great Britain

Investigators from Germany and Great Britain had reportedly come across closed groups on social media where information was exchanged on how best to drug one's partner and then have sex with her. A spokesperson for the special unit for sexual offenses of the Rotterdam police, Gerben Cabbort, described it as a "new phenomenon" in an interview with radio station NOS.

Regarding the specific content of the exchanged messages, Cabbort said: "Information was exchanged on how to best drug women – or rather, one's own partner – and then have sex with her." The suspects reportedly come from different regions of the Netherlands.

Parallels to the Pelicot Case

Investigators see parallels to the case of the Frenchwoman Gisèle Pelicot, who was drugged with medication by her then-husband Dominique for almost ten years, sexually abused, and offered to dozens of strangers for rape. In that case too, the acts were filmed and the recordings were distributed in closed circles.

Cabbort described the approach as a "new phenomenon" in the area of sexualized violence. The evaluation of the seized material and the questioning of the affected individuals could take weeks or months, according to observers.

The Dutch police announced that they would continue to inform the public as soon as new findings were available. In the Netherlands, victims of sexualized violence can contact, among others, the support organization Slachtofferhulp Nederland, which offers advice and assistance.
