A new preventive check-up for children between nine and ten years old is being introduced in Germany, supplementing the existing program of U-examinations.

The planned examination, designated U10, is aimed at children aged nine to ten and closes the gap between the previous U9, which is common up until school entry, and the adolescent examination J1, which takes place from the age of twelve. Health policy is thereby responding to a phase in which many health-related questions become apparent for the first time, such as concentration problems, behavioral abnormalities, or stress caused by media.

As the Techniker Krankenkasse lists on its website, the content of U10 and U11 is identical in substance. According to this, the examination covers attention and concentration disorders, behavioral abnormalities, problems with school performance, motor development, genital development, body weight, height and body mass index, anomalies in the dental, oral and jaw area, vaccination status, sensitive handling of media, and dealing with addictive substances.
