Vienna, September 6, 2026

With the start of the new school year 2026/27, several education policy changes come into effect in Austria, including 70 additional permanent positions for school psychology and the headscarf ban for children under 14, which has been in force since September 1.

Austria begins the 2026/27 school year with a number of education policy innovations. At the center is the expansion of school psychology: 70 additional permanent positions will be created during the current school year, as the Ministry of Education announced. In the previous school year alone, 70 new positions had also been added, so the total number of additional school psychologists has already increased significantly.
