The British right-wing populist Nigel Farage is running in the by-election in Clacton-on-Sea in southeast England against several independent candidates and joke candidates.
Background of the by-election
With his candidacy, Farage is pursuing the goal of once again winning a seat in the British Parliament, after having narrowly missed entering the Palace of Westminster in previous elections. The by-election in Clacton-on-Sea follows a vacant constituency seat on the southeast coast of England.
In addition to political rivals, the constituency also features so-called joke candidates seeking to draw attention to themselves with unusual platforms. Among the better-known entrants of this kind is Count Binface, who had previously attracted attention in earlier British elections with quirky campaign stunts.
