The British right-wing populist Nigel Farage is battling for his political survival in the by-election in his constituency of Clacton-on-Sea, contending with a donations affair, slipping poll numbers, and an unusual challenger.

Contrary to parliamentary rules, Farage had failed to disclose a donation of around 5.8 million euros from British crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne, who lives in Thailand. Prime Minister Keir Starmer attacked the Reform UK leader sharply: "Farage is up to his neck in a sleaze scandal," he said. Farage had compared the donation to a "lottery win" and was attempting to portray himself as the victim of an establishment conspiracy.
