Rostock, August 20, 2026
The heads of government of the northern German states met on Thursday in Rostock for a conference at which they discussed, among other things, reforms to public procurement law and electricity prices.
Background of the Meeting
For the meeting in the Hanseatic city, the minister-presidents and mayors of the northern states came together to coordinate common positions on economic and energy policy issues. According to participants, the talks centered on the concern that European and Chinese providers are increasingly putting pressure on the domestic market. The state leaders see this as a challenge for the regional economy and municipal services of general interest.
