In the months-long dispute over the financing of so-called non-transport calls in the emergency services in North Rhine-Westfalen, a transitional solution is emerging according to the NRW Ministry of Health – one that the Municipal Association nevertheless views with great concern.
The statutory health insurers and the municipalities in North Rhine-Westfalen have been arguing for months over who bears the costs of emergency service operations that ultimately do not result in a patient being taken to hospital. The health insurers had originally wanted to stop paying for such operations altogether. Now, however, according to the NRW Ministry of Health, they have agreed to cover at least part of the costs this year – a turnaround in the dispute that has been simmering for months.
