Düsseldorf/Berlin, July 6, 2026

Representatives of around 25 municipalities from North Rhine-Westphalia drove to Berlin on Tuesday in a protest convoy of 22 vehicles, 17 of which came from NRW, to demand immediate financial relief from the federal government.

Convoy sets off from Düsseldorf

In the morning, the municipal representatives had gathered at Johannes-Rau-Platz in Düsseldorf before setting off as a column toward Berlin. According to the action alliance "Für die Würde unserer Städte," the action comprises 22 vehicles, 17 of which come from North Rhine-Westphalia. Also taking part are representatives from eight other federal states; the alliance as a whole comprises 73 cities and municipalities.
