The head of US chipmaker Nvidia, Jensen Huang, has called AI infrastructure a newly emerging asset class for the capital market and has advocated for greater investment in data centers.
Background: The AI data center boom
Huang made the remarks at an event on the sidelines of the ongoing industry week, speaking of a turning point for the financing of so-called AI factories. "Das ist der Beginn eines offenen Kapitalmarktes für KI-Infrastruktur", he said, describing the segment as a new asset class that invests in the economy of tomorrow.
His statement comes against the backdrop of rapidly rising demand for computing power to run large AI models. Nvidia, with its graphics processing units (GPUs), is one of the most important suppliers of this infrastructure, delivering chips to major cloud providers as well as to operators of proprietary AI data centers.
