US chipmaker Nvidia is negotiating a guarantee of approximately $250 billion in favor of OpenAI, according to a report by the "Wall Street Journal," which would enable the ChatGPT developer to lease a massive new data center in Ohio.
Financing and Risks
The guarantee is intended to secure a series of financing vehicles that will fund the construction and leasing of the campus. Lenders are to receive greater security as a result – a point that is relevant because OpenAI itself does not have an investment-grade rating, as the "Wall Street Journal" reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
The negotiations are still at an early stage. As the "Wall Street Journal" (WSJ) reported, citing people familiar with the situation, the talks could still fall apart or change in terms of conditions. Representatives of NVIDIA, OpenAI, and SoftBank were also not immediately available for comment. Nvidia and OpenAI have not commented on the matter so far.
