Schlepzig, 13 July 2026
Due to a heavy infestation of the oak processionary moth, the state of Brandenburg has temporarily closed several sections of waterways in the Unterspreewald to boat traffic; Brandenburg's Environment Minister Hanka Mittelstädt and Infrastructure Minister Robert Crumbach (both SPD) plan to assess the situation on site in Schlepzig on Monday (11:00 a.m.).
According to the Transport Ministry, the closures affect roughly half of the navigable areas in the Unterspreewald. As the Transport Ministry announced, visitors are to be "vor den Gesundheitsgefahren durch alternative Routen geschützt werden". The oak processionary moth (EPS) has "besonders stark verbreitet und wird landesweit zum Gesundheitsproblem" this year, the Brandenburg Environment Ministry explained.
