Official Warning: Hot Friday in Saxony with Risk of Severe Thunderstorms

According to the information, the distribution of thunderstorms varies greatly by location. While some areas may remain dry, showers and thunderstorms will occur in concentrated form in other parts of Saxony. According to the forecast, the afternoon and early evening hours are particularly affected.

What to Keep in Mind During Thunderstorms

Due to the heat stress of recent days, authorities advise spending the midday hours in the shade or indoors. Older people and children should also drink enough fluids and avoid physical exertion outdoors. When thunderstorms arise, the weather service recommends avoiding open areas, trees, and metal objects.

The German Weather Service publishes binding warnings and short-term updates via its app and website. Citizens can also be informed of changes through the federal warning app and local radio stations. In the event of severe weather, the recommendation is to postpone car or bicycle trips if possible.

Warm Temperatures Persist at Night

The high temperatures of up to 36 degrees in the Lusatia region are at the upper end of what the German Weather Service has recorded for the region this summer. According to the service's guidelines, heat warnings apply from a perceived temperature of approximately 32 degrees. Friday's values are therefore approaching the threshold for an official heat warning.

For the night into Saturday, showers and thunderstorms are expected to subside. Temperatures will drop to between 18 and 21 degrees. This means that cities such as Dresden, Leipzig, and Chemnitz will remain comparatively warm overnight as well. According to the current forecast, noticeable cooling is not expected until the new week.

The German Weather Service emphasizes that thunderstorms can vary greatly by location and that a forecast for specific city districts or rural districts is often only possible a few hours in advance. Current maps with warning levels are continuously updated. The official warning of severe thunderstorms initially applies to the entire Friday afternoon but may be extended or expanded if necessary.
