According to the German Offshore Wind Energy Association, Germany has for the first time installed offshore wind energy systems with a total capacity of more than ten gigawatts, the association announced on Monday.
As of the reporting date of June 30, Germany thus exceeded the ten-gigawatt (GW) mark for the first time. In the North Sea and Baltic Sea, 1,764 wind energy systems with a total capacity of 10.8 GW were in operation. One gigawatt corresponds to 1,000 megawatts.
With 1,077 megawatts of newly installed capacity, the first half of the year saw a particularly strong increase. According to the data, several parks have already gone into operation in the current year or are about to be commissioned. A further 22 systems with a capacity of 323 megawatts have already been erected in the offshore wind parks Borkum Riffgrund 3, He Dreiht, and in the Nordseecluster A, but are not yet in operation, according to the figures.
