Renewables covered 58 percent of electricity consumption in Germany in the first half of 2026, according to projections by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) — more than in any previous first half-year.

Wind energy drives the increase

According to the figures, the share is almost three percentage points higher than the previous year's value. Across the whole of 2025, the share of renewables in electricity consumption had stood at 55.8 percent. This is according to projections by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW), as reported by dpa.
