The oil-exporting countries and their partners (OPEC+) announced on Sunday an expansion of oil production starting in August by 188,000 barrels per day.

The group of states, which includes the OPEC countries and other producers such as Russia, agreed on Sunday to raise production by 188,000 barrels per day, OPEC+ said. One barrel equals 159 liters. The decision was made in the core group of the alliance, which includes Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman. With this decision, the member states are continuing a line that had already been pursued in previous months.

In recent months, OPEC+ had already gradually increased oil production. The group of oil-exporting countries had agreed to raise quotas by 188,000 barrels per day, the organization said. According to OPEC data, the alliance's production in May was still significantly curbed: it fell to 33.13 million barrels per day, after having stood at 42.77 million barrels in February.
