Vienna, June 1, 2026
The Austrian Ministry of Education launched the tenders for the "Chancenbonus" (Opportunity Bonus) program on Monday, June 1, 2026, which is intended to bring additional support staff to around 400 schools starting with the upcoming school year.
A total of approximately 800 additional full-time equivalents are available for this purpose, as the ministry announced in a press release. Participating schools can decide for themselves which positions they need most urgently.
Minister of Education Christoph Wiederkehr (NEOS) spoke of another big step in the "catch-up race." "With the Opportunity Bonus, we are taking another big step in our catch-up race. We are thus fulfilling a promise and investing in the schools that need it most urgently, despite budget constraints," the minister explained.
