Austria's expansion of full-day schools has progressed slowly, with only 8.1% of students enrolled in "true" full-day programs, while regional disparities highlight uneven access to educational support.
Limited Growth in Full-Day Schools
Despite government funding over the past 15 years, Austria has seen minimal growth in full-day school offerings. Currently, only 252 "true" full-day schools exist nationwide, with 134 located in Vienna. These schools integrate instruction with learning and free time, a model that remains rare.
The number of such schools has increased by just 37 locations in recent years, including those where only individual classes follow the integrated model. Education officials acknowledge the slow progress, particularly in regions like Vorarlberg, Upper Austria, Tyrol, and Salzburg, where full-day school models have even been reduced.
