More than 230 economists published an open letter on Monday titled "We Must Act Now," warning of an unprepared transformation of the economy by Artificial Intelligence and calling for swift action from policymakers, business, and the tech industry.
In the paper, released under the slogan "We Must Act Now," the signatories paint a bleak picture of the short-term consequences of the AI advance. "In the short term, however, it could render millions of jobs obsolete, with dramatic consequences," the letter states. Particularly affected would be office and service sector employees, whose tasks could most easily be automated.
