Linz, 17 July 2026
A technical defect in the overhead line and a signal box severely restricted rail traffic on the West rail line between Linz Hauptbahnhof and St. Valentin in Lower Austria on Thursday evening.
Cause of the disruption
As the ÖBB announced on Thursday evening on its information platform, no rail traffic was initially possible between Linz Hauptbahnhof and St. Valentin. "Derzeit ist zwischen Linz Hbf und St. Valentin kein Zugverkehr möglich. Grund dafür ist eine Oberleitungsstörung," it said there. The disruption occurred on Thursday evening in the Pichling area, according to the Pichling Volunteer Fire Brigade.
The defect also led to a train coming to a standstill on the open line on Thursday evening due to a power outage. As the Pichling Volunteer Fire Brigade reported, the emergency services, together with the Linz Professional Fire Brigade, first had to secure and ground the overhead line before passengers could leave the train safely. "Nachdem die erforderlichen Erdungs- und Sicherungsmaßnahmen abgeschlossen waren, konnten sämtliche Fahrgäste den Zug ohne Zwischenfälle verlassen." No one was injured.
