The charity Oxfam criticized luxury consumption and investment by a small minority on October 27, 2026 as a significant factor in the climate crisis and social inequality.

Oxfam explicitly links the fight against the climate crisis to the distribution of wealth and responsibility. In an analysis based on 12 contributions, the organization cites private jets and billions in wealth as examples of a consumption and investment pattern that generates high emissions and is distributed in a highly unequal manner in society.

At the center of the criticism is a small group of private jet users and the extremely wealthy. According to the organization, through luxury consumption and investment, they generate disproportionately high emissions and thus also impose burdens that, according to Oxfam, are borne above all by the majority.
