Leverkusen, 25 June 2026
The 30-year-old striker Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen announced his retirement from the Czech national team on Thursday via Instagram, after his country was eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in North America.
Schick's decision was a response to the Czech Republic's disappointing performance at the tournament in North America. The Czech side picked up just one point in three group matches, falling well short of advancing to the knockout round. On a personal level, the tournament was also unsatisfying for the Leverkusen forward: he failed to score a single goal and was only brought on as a substitute in the second half of the decisive third group match against Mexico.
