Moscow, 11 July 2026

Peter Kadiru, a 29-year-old heavyweight from Hamburg, lost to Russia's Murat Gassiev by technical knockout in the sixth round of a WBA world title fight in Moscow on Saturday.

Kadiru's corner stopped the bout one minute into the sixth round, with trainer Christian Morales throwing in the towel. The loss was Kadiru's second defeat in his 25th professional bout, leaving his record at 23 wins and 2 losses. He was attempting to become only the third German heavyweight world champion.

A short-notice opportunity

The opportunity arrived on extremely short notice. Tony Yoka, the 2016 Olympic champion from France, was originally booked as Gassiev's challenger but withdrew because of a back injury.
