The US pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who became world-famous in 2009 for a spectacular emergency water landing on the Hudson River, has publicly revealed his Alzheimer's diagnosis.

Sullenberger published the diagnosis on Monday via his website and in an interview with the US magazine "People." The disease had been detected the previous August, the American said. He is 75 years old. "In this new phase of his life, he wants to continue to be helpful and speak openly about this experience, in the hope of encouraging others affected to also go public," the statement said.
