Four-time Tour de France winner Tadej Pogacar is, according to his team manager Mauro Gianetti, on the verge of extending his contract with UAE Team Emirates, with the still-missing Vuelta a España considered the final career puzzle piece.
As Gianetti confirmed to the media, the 26-year-old Slovenian is in advanced talks over a new contract. The team from the United Arab Emirates wants to tie down its star rider on a long-term basis, particularly since Pogacar, with his achievements so far, is already one of the most defining figures of recent cycling history.
After four overall victories at the Tour de France, a triumph at the Giro d'Italia in 2024, as well as wins at numerous one-day races and Classics, Pogacar still lacks success at the Vuelta a España to complete the set of all three major stage races. He could close this gap in the current edition already, which begins on 23 August in Monaco with a team time trial and ends on 14 September in Granada.
