Braunau am Inn, July 22, 2026

In Braunau am Inn, the converted birthplace of Adolf Hitler was officially opened on Wednesday as a police center after three years of renovation; in the future, it will house the city police and the district police command.

The building at Salzburger Vorstadt 15, where Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889, has undergone a fundamental change. According to its own figures, the Interior Ministry invested around 20 million euros in the conversion, which gutted the facade and modernized the interiors. "Helle Gänge, saubere Wände, modernes Licht" describes the state of the house, which, in the words of Stephan Mlczoch, head of the Department for Historical Affairs at the Interior Ministry, is "ganz typisch für einen Neubau."
