Ebensee, 05 July 2026

A 63-year-old from Ebensee was out with his dog in the Totes Gebirge on Saturday when the animal was bitten by a snake; the police helicopter Libelle flew the dog, which could no longer walk, out of the alpine terrain.

The 63-year-old was traveling with his wife and their roughly 35-kilogram mixed-breed dog from Offensee toward the Rinnerkogel when the incident occurred in the Totes Gebirge area. During the tour, the animal was bitten by a snake, after which its paw swelled massively. The dog was subsequently unable to move on its own and remained lying in the terrain.
