The phrase, which translates roughly to "Generating electricity from fossil fuels is a crime," suggests an ideological motive linked to climate activism, though authorities have not publicly identified any suspect or group.

The discovery in eastern Saxony followed earlier findings near Köln, in Gevelsberg and in Kerpen, where self-constructed firing devices were recovered. Police in Köln confirmed five of the recovered items were linked to the wider investigation, according to the agency tally of mentions across six source articles.

Investigators are now probing whether the same actors are responsible for each location and whether the devices were designed to cause sustained outages. Security officials have warned that attacks on transmission infrastructure can disrupt electricity supply to tens of thousands of households and critical facilities such as hospitals.
