Following the attacks on substations in Brandenburg and in Bergheim near Cologne, a claim of responsibility has surfaced, according to investigators.
Police in Brandenburg are investigating the sabotage acts on the power grid on suspicion of terrorism. As officers announced, a letter was secured that takes responsibility for the attacks. Details regarding the content and origin of the letter were initially not made public. Investigators are checking according to their own statements whether it is a genuine claim of responsibility.
According to current findings, several facilities were affected, including the Jänschwalde power plant in Brandenburg as well as a substation in Bergheim near Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia. Burn marks had been discovered at the switchgear installations according to police. Larger power outages for the population did not occur according to the authorities, but the damage to the infrastructure is described as considerable.
