Police raid stolen goods stash in Carinthia and arrest multiple suspects

The search subsequently expanded to a farm in Magdalensberg. According to further police reports, a 48-year-old Romanian was encountered there during a house search. According to the current state of the investigation, the building is being used as a possible stolen goods depot in which stolen items from multiple crimes are alleged to have been stored or handled.

In addition to the 19-year-old and the 48-year-old, two other Romanian nationals also came into the focus of the investigators. The two men, aged 27 and 39, were also arrested, as police confirmed. Criminal investigators are examining indications of possible masterminds or an organized network.

According to the information, the seized items include bicycle parts, e-scooters and other suspected stolen goods. The Federal Criminal Police Office and the relevant specialist departments are evaluating the finds in order to be able to assign them to specific crimes. The investigations are ongoing.

Police emphasized that the passerby's observation had provided the decisive impetus for the arrests. Tips from the public had also been a central building block for solving series of thefts in this case, it was said. The officers expressly thanked the attentive witness.

Further investigations and possible masterminds

In connection with the arrests, it is being examined whether the men could be responsible for further construction site thefts and similar property crimes in the region. Investigators are asking possible additional victims to contact the police. Based on the current state of affairs, the authorities assume that the crimes could be related to one another across regional boundaries.

All four arrestees were taken into custody at Klagenfurt Prison. The responsible public prosecutor's office will decide on further proceedings. The Carinthia State Police Directorate announced that it would continue the investigations in the coming days and also examine possible connections to similar cases in other federal states.

In this context, police are once again warning of growing property crime in rural areas and recommend reporting suspicious observations immediately. Especially in remote field and forest areas, stolen goods are often stored there temporarily in order to be transported away later – a tactic that can only be broken up early with the help of attentive citizens.

With the raid in Magdalensberg, police are believed to have uncovered at least one important hub of the suspected stolen goods ring. Whether further suspects must be included in the case now depends on the outcome of the ongoing investigations. Should the suspicion be confirmed, the arrestees face prison sentences of several years for theft and gang-related commission of the offense.
