Vienna police arrest alleged serial burglar after some 70 apartment break-ins

The 64-year-old is suspected of having committed some 70 apartment burglaries in Vienna since February 2025. The exact times and locations of the crimes are currently being evaluated, according to the available information.

Statement refused

The man has so far made no statement regarding the allegations. He refused to make a statement after his arrest, as Vienna police announced. His version of events therefore remains unknown for the time being.

The investigations against the accused are not yet complete. Police are reviewing further possible offences and connections, according to their own statements. The assignment of evidence already seized to individual crime scenes is also part of the ongoing investigation.

Officers from the EGS and the State Office of Criminal Investigation tracked down the man on Wednesday afternoon in Vienna-Favoriten and provisionally arrested him. This brought an end to a series of investigations that had extended over several months.

Seized evidence

According to current findings, the burglaries were concentrated on apartments in Vienna. No concrete information was initially released regarding the total amount of damage caused. The seized items will be returned to those affected, where possible.

During the operation, in addition to suspected stolen goods, items were also found that, according to police, served the suspect as burglary tools. Authorities have not yet disclosed in detail which specific items were seized.

Vienna police view the arrest as the result of targeted surveillance work. They announced that they would continue to investigate the matter and, if necessary, take additional suspects into their sights.
