A suspected tornado swept across Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein on Sunday evening and damaged an estimated 40 to 50 buildings.

According to the fire department and police, the wind funnel moved through the small town in the district of Steinburg shortly before 7 p.m., coming from the Elbe. Emergency services registered damage to approximately 40 to 50 buildings, as the Itzehoe Police Directorate announced. As of now, no one was injured.

Course of the operation in Glückstadt

The chief of the Glückstadt fire department described the course of the operation: "We were alerted at around 7:00 p.m.," he said, adding that at peak, 120 emergency personnel were involved. "The operation ended at around 2:00 a.m. at night." This means the cleanup work lasted around seven hours.
