Austria’s Anastasia Potapova and Julia Grabher will both contest their second-round matches at the French Open on Thursday under a persistent Paris heatwave.
The 25-year-old Potapova, seeded 28th and competing for Austria since this year after switching from Russia, takes on Britain’s world number 71 Katie Boulter in their first career meeting. Potapova, a Madrid semifinalist who has earned over six million US dollars in prize money, enters the match as the clear favorite.
Julia Grabher, ranked 121st, faces a far steeper task against American world number six Amanda Anisimova, a Wimbledon and US Open finalist last year. Grabher’s coach Günter Bresnik, who is on site in Paris, did not mince words about the challenge. “Da hast du mehr oder weniger keine Chance,” he said, adding that only an outstanding performance from Grabher could keep her competitive.
