The Order of Pour le mérite for Sciences and Arts has admitted four new members in a session held at the end of May, including German artist Anselm Kiefer, Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović, Austrian-Swiss economist Ernst Fehr, and German legal scholar Angelika Nußberger.

Update of 14 July 2026: The induction of the four new members is now officially announced. As the updated report shows, Marina Abramović, Anselm Kiefer, Ernst Fehr, and Angelika Nußberger were called into the Order of Pour le mérite for Sciences and Arts at a session at the end of May.

The Order of Pour le mérite admits individuals who have earned distinction in the sciences and arts. Wolfram Weimer, whose agency – the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) – finances the order and provides organizational support, paid tribute to the new members with the words: "Ihr Wirken hat Wissenschaft geprägt und in der Gegenwartskunst weltweit Maßstäbe gesetzt. Ihre Wahl macht die Bedeutung dieses Ordens als Auszeichnung für höchste geistige und künstlerische Leistungen noch einmal deutlich."
