The Emergency on Stage
The 37th Opera Festival at Oper Burg Gars opened on Saturday in summer weather and to a sold-out house with Puccini's "Madama Butterfly." State Finance Councillor Anton Kasser officially launched the festival on behalf of State Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. Among the guests were Othmar Karas, the Mayor of Gars Martin Falk, Thomas Schäfer-Elmayer, and Marika Lichter. The musical direction was in the hands of Karsten Januschke, who led the festival orchestra through the score; the musical performances at the castle are unamplified.
