Prince William revealed on the US podcast "New Heights" that his father King Charles III despises football, and at the same time praised the German national coach Thomas Tuchel for his work with England's team.

On the podcast, hosted by former NFL player Travis Kelce together with his brother Jason Kelce, William spoke about the British royal family's passion for football. When asked whether his father had introduced him to his favorite club Aston Villa, the heir to the throne laughed and replied: „Mein Vater hasst Fußball". The remark was made on Friday, in the middle of the ongoing football World Cup, and made headlines in British media.

According to William, the British royal family's relationship with the nation's number-one popular sport has room for improvement. His family has "keine besonders lange Fußballtradition", the 44-year-old added. His father, who is now 77 years old, did not pass this down to him – in contrast to the enthusiasm for other sports that are cultivated at court.
