Paris Saint-Germain defended its title at the European Supercup on Wednesday evening at the Wals-Siezenheim stadium in Salzburg, defeating Aston Villa.
The triumph in the Salzburg suburb of Wals-Siezenheim marks the second consecutive success for the French club in this competition. In front of 28,500 spectators, the Parisians dominated proceedings and converted their chances consistently.
Once again, it was the attacking players who made the decisive difference. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué scored for PSG and established clear advantages early on. The young Brian Madjo, who has continued to grow in importance this season, also added his name to the scoresheet.
Aston Villa, who had surprisingly reached the final as the English representative, only found its way into the game in phases. The side managed by coach Unai Emery fought against defeat but was barely able to trouble the Parisian defense.
