At a joint appearance by United Russia and several smaller parties at Moscow's Megasport Arena, Vladimir Putin and Dmitri Medvedev invoked Russia's cohesion and defended the government's course against criticism from at home and abroad.

At the large-scale event staged as a united party congress in Moscow's Megasport Arena, Russian President Vladimir Putin and former head of state Dmitri Medvedev appeared together. Before thousands of supporters, they made the case for unity at home and resolve abroad. The stage was decorated in the colors of the Russian tricolor; victory slogans were projected onto large screens.

At the center of Putin's speech was an appeal to the population to rally behind the armed forces. "At the moment, a great deal depends on our cohesion, on the courage of Russian soldiers and officers, and on every single person who works conscientiously in their place to contribute to victory," Putin said at the Megasport Arena in Moscow. The formulation of "victory" was part of a longer passage in which he framed the deployment of the army as a common national task.
